The court case said Google must keep helping old Chromebook devices until at least 2033. This is because Google promised to give updates for 10 years. After that, ChromeOS may fully close in 2034.
Google wants to join its systems together. In 2025, Google said it wants to mix Android and ChromeOS into one new system. This new system is called “Aluminium OS.” This new system may replace ChromeOS in the future.
Google lost a big court case about web search. The court said Google had too much control in search. But Google still owns and controls the Chrome browser.
The court also said ChromeOS is built using Chrome and Linux. The new Aluminium OS will also use Chrome parts inside it.
The new Aluminium OS may work like a desktop version of Android. It may run on many types of computers. It may also run Android apps and ChromeOS apps with small changes.
This plan shows Google’s long future idea. The new system may be used in school computers and low-cost desktop computers. Slowly, people will move from ChromeOS to the new system.
For many Chromebook users, especially in schools, support will continue until 2033. This gives them many years before ChromeOS finally ends. Google now has to manage this slow change over the next 10 years.
