A new Windows update is making problems for some people. This update name is KB5074109. It came in January 2026 to make computers more safe.
After this update, many users said their Nvidia graphics card became slow. Games and videos were not working well. Some people said their FPS dropped by 15–20. The screen was also shaking, flickering, and showing strange shadows. Frame problems also happened.
At first, people thought Nvidia drivers were the problem. But later, a Nvidia forum admin said the Windows update KB5074109 may be the real problem. He told users to remove this update. Nvidia and Microsoft are now checking this issue together.
Microsoft has not given any clear public answer yet.
Users can check this update in:
Settings → Windows Update → Update history
From there, they can remove the update.
The January update was big and important. It had more than 100 security fixes. So most Windows 11 computers installed it.
But this update also made many other problems, like:
Remote Desktop not working with Azure and Microsoft 365
Some computers restarting again and again
Outlook not opening
Screen problems and visual bugs
Microsoft later released some small extra fixes. Some problems were fixed, but some are still there.
More fixes may come in February updates. Some optional fixes are already available. It is not clear if these will fully fix Nvidia GPU slow performance.
AMD graphics card users did not report many problems like this.
This is not the first time Windows updates made problems. In the past months, updates also caused:
Internet connection problems
Blu-ray not playing
System recovery tools not working
Because of many issues, Microsoft engineers now want to focus more on speed and system stability, not new features.
Some users think these problems started because Microsoft is using more AI to write code. But there is no proof that AI caused this problem.
Last year, CEO Satya Nadella said AI now writes about 30% of Microsoft code. CTO Kevin Scott also said AI coding may become very common by 2030.
