New market data shows that the Nintendo Switch 2 has made a new record in the United States. According to analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana, the console sold 4.4 million units by the end of 2025. This makes it the fastest-selling home console ever launched in the U.S.
These sales come from the first seven months after the Switch 2 launched in mid-2025. The strong sales show that many people still like Nintendo’s idea of a console that works both at home and on the go. This success comes almost ten years after the original Switch changed portable gaming.
Compared to older consoles, the Switch 2 is doing very well. Its sales are almost double the original Switch at the same time, and about 35% higher than the PlayStation 4 during its early launch period.
Sales slowed a bit during the 2025 holiday season. The Switch 2 sold about 35% less than the original Switch did during its first Christmas. Even so, analysts say its overall launch performance is still the strongest ever in the U.S.
Piscatella explained that while the Game Boy Advance is still the best hardware launch overall, the Switch 2 has very strong player interest. He said both old Nintendo fans and new users are buying it. Features like playing older Switch games and better hardware also helped boost sales.

Looking ahead, experts warn that rising costs, possible tariffs, and new AI development tools could affect console prices in 2026. For now, though, the strong sales of the Switch 2 keep Nintendo ahead in the gaming hardware market as the console moves into its second year.
